BEST OF CALGARY 2005
By Jason Lewis
The Can Ho is a great excuse to get the rock out of town
If you have been savvy enough to sign up to your favourite local band’s mailing list, you have probably been invited to more shows than you could ever attend. But if you ever get called upon to truck out to Canmore to see some local rockers play, you might want to ante up the gas money and hit the road.

For a few years now, The Canmore Hotel (738 - 8 Street – a.k.a. Main Street) has been booking bands of all kinds in their bar and it’s obvious right down to the song selection in their kick-ass jukebox (everything from David Bowie to indie types like the D-Rangers). If you can convince a posse of your pals to make the trek, you will be greeted with a slightly raised stage, a devil-may-care soundman (who always delivers the goods) and a spunky local crowd that isn’t above getting crazy on the dance floor (or having a few beers for that matter). While I can’t say I’ve ever spent the night at the Can Ho, seeing a Calgary band out of their comfort zone, but not whacked out from a lengthy drive, is more than worth the trip out and the late-night drive back.

The Canmore Hotel has live music Friday through Sunday. Check out http://www.canmorehotel.com/events.html or call (403) 678-5181 for more information.
