I was reading your article and found myself asking the question, "Who is this chick, with her completely biased views, poor writing skills, and lack of knowledge of our local music scene?" I understand the concept of freedom of speech and all that jazz, however, if you're ever going to be taken seriously as a writer, I suggest you get your facts straight, learn how to classify music genres and maybe try reading your piece out loud, so that you can hear what you sound like.
First off, poor Falconhawk? This band is just trying to be the next Reverie, and doing a pretty crappy job at that. I saw them perform at ACAD, and wanted to gouge my ears out with a spoon. Lack of talent and terrible vocals. Oh wait, lots of scenester friends, so that's OK, some people will show up at shows and their minimum-wage buddies will say good things about them at the indie music stores.
As for your comments about The Cranston Foundation, their CD release was a huge success. Don't believe me, ask the bar about their evening cash-out. As for your music comparisons, if you had said something like "sublime," or mentioned anything about their eclectic mix of reggae, hip hop, dance hall, punk and rock, you might have hit it on the nose a little. But white rap? If you bothered to show up at a show before writing a review, you would know that they are not all white, but quite multicultural. Oh yeah, and by the way, most of the people at their shows are chicks, and not dudes dressed in Le Chateau gear.
I don't mean to sound harsh, but I've probably been around the Calgary music scene a lot longer than you, and in my opinion, you obviously don't get it, so maybe you should write about something else, like "conveyor belts."
