Muslim leaders are contradicting the facts
Re: "Calgary Muslims promote understanding," by Amy Steele, News, July 22-27, 2005.

Muslim leaders such as Salman Khalid keep telling us that Islam is about peace and harmony. I am always amazed when I hear or read stuff like that because these assertions are such a blatant contradiction of the facts: the proliferation of terrorist activities all over the world, and threats to murder people who question the Koran, who turn over rocks to reveal truths like the oppression of women, or who leave the religion (another fact that many would choose to hide).

Back to terrorists – terrorists may be a minority in the Muslim communities and countries, but they can’t do their dirty work without widespread support in the communities in which they reside.

This doesn’t look like peace and harmony to me. Leaders such as Mr. Khalid lack credibility because all they do is deny the scary facts about their communities and their religion. Denial such as this means leaders can’t do anything to combat terrorism and human rights abuses that plague their communities.
