| Apparently summer is over. The 40 to 70 per cent off sales mean lightweight sweaters are crammed into store windows, while tiny tank tops and tissue tees resign themselves to the lint-filled sale rack located in a broom closet at the rear of the store. I feel for those brightly coloured, slighted shirts. I resent those soft sweaters of fall intruding on my sunshine and rum-and-coke patio reverie. I say damn them, I'm going T-shirt shopping.
At chasershirts.com, there is a stellar selection of band shirts from Blondie to Velvet Revolver. However, the real gems on the site come from the artist series, with designs by Coop, Pushead and Dave Cooper.
A little shaky in its concept as a design collective pumping out "architecturally inspired recyclable furniture and minimalist clothing," cardboardrobot.coms shirts are far from minimal. Youll find robots fighting monsters in Tokyo or just kicking back in New York City with a boom box and tracksuit. For the ladies, the electric guitar or tank barrettes are not to be missed.
If you expect more in a T-shirt than a stores logo, I highly recommend digitalgravel.com, a site dedicated to supplying independent brands to the masses. With over 250 items in stock, theres bound to be something that catches your eye, whether its a 10 Deep shirt proclaiming "New York hates you" or Slow Moving Vehicles hand-painted ties.
My "I lobster roll NY" shirt is already in the mail. |
